Wow. 2018 and our first full year as Adventurista Boutique was one for the books. Here are a few of the highlights:
We traveled to SE Asia for 2.5 months to work with artisans to produce ethically made products. We sold out of our Adventurista clutch, which is handmade in Bali, Indonesia the very first week. Now we are producing and carrying them in multiple colors. In 2019, we will be working on creating even more purses and bags in both Indonesia and India.
We started the process of designing our very own exclusive Adventurista clothing line, which we will be continuing to work on and bringing to life in 2019.
We focused on carrying ethically produced items, and we will continue to search for and produce high quality items that fairly support the people who made them and are ethically made. In 2018, we even visited one of the small workshops we are working with in Cambodia, which produces incredible clothes made from recycled remnant fabrics.
We launched our website in April. Then in the fall, we made it even better with additions like our blog. Each week, we’ll now be sharing different inspirations, style tips, travel stories, etc. This is one my favorite additions to our website, and we cannot wait to share even more in 2019.
We started using CommentSold for our Facebook group and our live shows to make shopping Adventurista on social media easier than ever!
We started the development of building an app that will completely change how you shop with us. If you are in our Facebook group, you might have heard us talk about this. We recently wrapped up the development of the app, and we will be introducing it to you all next week!
We took our mobile boutique to 15 markets from August to December! Eric and I were on the road every single weekend for five months! I absolutely love bringing our mobile boutique around the U.S. We have even more markets planned for 2019, and we hope to share our updated schedule in January, once our plans are finalized.
Thank you so much for being part of Adventurista. I appreciate each of you! We look forward to bringing you amazing styles, personal styling, inspiration, and serving you in 2019. Cheers to living boldly and adventurously in 2019!
In our weekly Adventures In Styling series, we'll be sharing different ways to wear some of our current favorites. We created this series to inspire you with your own style + give you some style ideas. This week, each person on our team has styled the same item in their own way (yes, including Eric!).
For her look, Lesi wanted the focus of the outfit to be the embellished bag. This handmade bag from India makes any outfit pop and is truly stunning. Because the bag has a hint of blue, she tied the bag in with our Navy Elisa boots.

For this outfit, I was thinking back to my old DC office days. This is totally something I would have worn to work. I love our Adventurista clutches for work, because they are perfect to throw into larger bags. This way, you can pull out a smaller clutch for meetings, or when you are heading out to happy hour. (We have them ethically produced in Bali, Indonesia, and they are AH-MAZING). I then added a classic boot and our silver dreamer earrings, which are a great statement piece.

Welcome to Adventurista, the ultimate space for style, adventure, and living boldly!
How it all began:
In 2011, my then boyfriend/now husband Eric and I were living in Washington, DC. We were dreaming up big plans of ditching the hectic nonprofit/political career ladder, in search of a different life of working from our laptops and traveling the world.
At the time, I was working 70+ hour weeks, at the nonprofit I was the program director of, training immigrant and refugee women on how to start a business, in addition to running another nonprofit I co-founded. I was burnt out beyond belief and emotionally exhausted. At 27, I knew this was no way for me live the rest of my life.
So I started a consulting company, that would allow me to work from anywhere. Eric and I sought out opportunities, where we could work together, combining my business, marketing, and strategic planning skills with Eric’s photography and videography skills. This led us to living out of a backpack for 3 years and working from our laptops, while globetrotting through 37 different countries. (We've now been to 44!)
Eric and I in Turkey, where we lived in 2012.
Exploring the Big Sur area, on one of our many U.S. road trips.
So how did Adventurista start?
I've loved clothes, fashion, and shopping, for as long as I can remember. When clothing catalogues would arrive in the mail (hello, pre-internet life), I'd circle clothes with a marker and put together outfits in my mind. My Christmas wishlist always consisted of clothing items, and I usually stapled catalogue pages to said lists.
But the idea of getting into the business of fashion or going to school for it never crossed my mind.
One day, in 2011, while Eric and I were running on one of our nightly runs, down NW 16th Street, from our 500 sq. ft. apartment, to the White House and back, the vision for starting Adventurista hit me like a strike of lightning. That night, Eric and I talked and daydreamed about what that would look like, but the idea was pushed to the side, as we moved forward with our dream of backpacking across the world.
Towards the end of the hike, on a beautiful day, I had a crystal clear vision of having a home base and a business, rooted in one place. This vision initially scared me, as it was the complete opposite of what Eric and I had thought we wanted for our lives.
But then we found ourselves back in Lake Charles, Louisiana, the town Eric was born and raised in, where we ended up buying the oldest church in our town. (Yes, we bought a church!) Simultaneously, I ended up working for a clothing company, where I sold clothes for them exclusively for three years. However, while that was a great way to dip my toes into the retail and fashion industry, similar to the vision I had on El Camino, in the late summer of 2017, a new vision came through loud and clear, that it was time for me to create something new- and on my own.
I'm creating this space (online and in real life, with our Mobile Boutique and in-person experiences) for the woman who seeks adventure in the everyday, no matter where she is, or what she is doing. I want to help you feel amazing, get in tune with your unique sense of style, and inspire you to live life on your own terms.
And that's what being an Adventurista is all about - living boldly and seeking adventure in the everyday. It doesn't matter who you are, how old you are, or what you look like, each of us has our own inner Adventurista.
Right now, you can shop our store here. All items are handpicked by me. And coming soon, we will be launching our very own designs, ethically produced in (Bali) Indonesia, India, and Colombia.
We have tons of exciting things coming soon (hint: a new way of offering virtual, personal styling)! So pull up a chair, stay awhile, and join us in this adventure.
